Feeding people reduces food insecurity. The numbers of needy individuals in the Los Angeles areas has tripled over the last ten years.
According to the California Health Interview Survey, 3.4 million California adults said they went hungry in 2021. 39% of California adults experience food insecurity. Food insecurity is having limited, uncertain, or inconsistent access to the food necessary for a healthy life. In 2021, more than a third of California adults with low incomes (below 200% of the federal poverty level) said they couldn’t afford enough food, according to the California Health Interview Survey (CHIS).
According to Action Against Hunger August 2023 report; 1 in 10 people suffer from hunger, 13.6 million children suffer from severe acute malnutrition, 2 million children die every year from malnutrition, 45% of all child deaths worldwide are from hunger and related causes, and 1 in 3 children in low- and middle income countries suffers from chronic malnutrition.
